If we’re talking about one of the greatest AAA games, “Cyberpunk 2077” is definitely one that comes to mind. Despite its rocky launch, the game has become a benchmark for measuring PC performance due to its stunning graphics, intricate world design, and demanding system requirements.
Regarding the story and character backgrounds, many of you may already know a lot. But there are always unique facts that might surprise you! Today, we will talk about some unique (or perhaps useless?) facts that you probably don’t know about “Cyberpunk 2077”
1. Many Missions Using an Old Popular Song Name
This one, if you haven’t realized it: many missions in “Cyberpunk 2077” are named after popular songs. The missions simply reflect the message of the songs they are named after, making them unique and nostalgic for older generations.
For the new generation, maybe you could take note? You might find a song you’ll like! For instance, missions like “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out” and “Killing in the Name” are perfect examples of this clever naming convention, each echoing the themes and emotions of the original tracks.
2. Disaster on it’s Release Day
The launch of “Cyberpunk 2077” on December 10, 2020, was marred by significant issues, particularly on last-gen consoles. Players encountered numerous bugs and performance problems, leading to widespread criticism.
This reflected on their score on several gaming review sites such as Metacritic, which only gives 57 score on PS4, and 61 on Xbox one.
The backlash was so severe that Sony temporarily removed the game from the PlayStation Store, marking one of the most infamous launches in gaming history. It is estimated that around 30,000 players requested refunds shortly after the game’s release.
3. Anime Increasing Game Sales
Ever heard about an anime or spin-off series that boosted the sales of a game? “Cyberpunk 2077” was initially viewed as a disaster for CD Projekt but sold 13.7 million copies shortly after its December 2020 release and surpassed 20 million by September 2022.
The success of the “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” anime on Netflix further boosted sales, leading to a record third quarter for CD Projekt with revenues of zł246 million ($54.3 million) and a net profit of zł99 million ($21.8 million).
The “Edgerunners” update (version 1.6) added new content related to the anime, which was well-received and ranked in the Netflix top 10 in 19 countries.
4. Real City Planners Were Hired
If you feel that Night City is so damn realistic that you might think it was designed by a real professional, bingo, you are right! Although the specific team that designed the city is not widely publicized, CD Projekt Red collaborated with actual urban planners to create an authentic and believable environment.
5. Lack of Animals
In the dystopian world of “Cyberpunk 2077,” animals are notably absent due to environmental degradation and disease. The game lore suggests that many species, including sharks, have gone extinct as a consequence of corporate exploitation and ecological collapse.
However, despite the lack of animals to encounter in real life, players can choose to have a pet, which comes with certain taxes or fees.
6. Have a Ton of Mods
The lack of content and the disastrous launch led the community to try to fix these problems themselves by using mods. As a result, many mods were created, making “Cyberpunk 2077” one of the games I would recommend playing on PC because of its extensive mod capabilities.
